Owen County Tourism & Convention Commission
History
The Owen County Tourism & Convention Commission formed in 2011 and is currently made up of seven members:
Holly Bowling, Director
Jenni Duncan, Chairperson
Lindsey Tirey, Secretary
Mike Haines, Treasurer
Shadoe Aldridge
Shanna Osborne
Darla House-Webb
Its purpose is to promote and develop convention tourism activities and facilities within the territorial jurisdiction of Owen County, Kentucky. In 2016, a visitors center, operated by the Commission, opened on West Seminary Street, later relocating to 300 Main Street. The current location combines the visitor center with a gift shop where artisans from across Owen County and beyond can sell their products through consignment.
In 2021, the Commission launched Sweet Owen Magazine, a free quarterly magazine celebrating all things Owen County. Inside the full-color, glossy-page magazine, you can find features on local businesses, spotlights on the community's outstanding volunteers, informative columns from those in leadership positions, glimpses into Owen County's historical past, a definitive listing of upcoming events and more. Its mission is to entertain, inspire and inform the local and regional community with a unique variety of articles that provide something of interest for everyone while supporting local businesses, non-profit and civic organizations, tourism and the arts.
The Owen County Tourism & Convention Commission meets at 9:30 a.m. on the third Monday of each month in the Owen County Chamber of Commerce Conference Room, 102 N. Main St., Owenton, KY 40359 (upstairs from Backwards Saddle Boutique). Click here to view the 2023 meeting schedule.
